Running used to be a necessity, the only way
early humans could survive and thrive and spread across the planet. You ran to
eat and to avoid being eaten. You ran to find a mate and impress her, and with
her you ran off to start a new life together. You had to love running, or you
wouldn't live to love anything else."
- Christopher McDougall, Author of 'Born to Run'
Swindon
is a great place to run, with a vast array of off-road cycle paths and
pretty country lanes nearby. Knowing the exact distance you've run is useful in order to set yourself goals and monitor your progress. So
we've put together a few routes with the help of MapMyRun.com to help
you get started. The routes are of varying lengths and mostly
circular as these tend to be more practical and
popular. If you would like more help with beginners or intermediate running, this can be incorporated into our personal training programmes. TIP: Select 'Hybrid' from the Map Type menu once the map has loaded. This will give a clearer view of off-road paths.
1/2 Mile (800m) Lydiard Straight
This stretch of path in Lydiard Park is perfect for interval training as it is relatively quiet and there are no gates.
2 Miles Coate Water Loop
Perfect for those training in the east side of Swindon. The exact distance is 1.86 miles. Starts and finishes near public car park.
Much of this route is off-road, taking advantage of West Swindon's cycle paths.
6 Miles Lydiard Park West Circuit
10K runs are
increasingly popular, with many organised races over this distance.
This route is perfect if you want to test yourself over this distance in your own training runs.
